Diamonds worth millions stolen at Baselworld

Vandals have stolen Wednesday from a four-diamond worth several million francs in the lounge of the watch and Wedding Jewellery “Baselworld”. Around 11:00, they have diverted the attention of an employee to steal the jewels in a window before fleeing.
The theft occurred in Hall 3 of Basel Fair in Switzerland. Three men have held the employee of a diamond while their accomplices have committed their flight, said in an ATS spokesman for the prosecution of Basel-City.
Employees stand found the disappearance of diamonds soon after. Once alerted, the custodial staff was quickly wrap the hall. Nobody could get out for half an hour. The thugs are apparently still managed to leave with their loot.
A search operation was launched immediately to find the four or five thieves. An investigation is underway. Experts have identified the fingerprints of suspects. Video images recorded by the many surveillance cameras “Baselworld” are also analyzed.
Shooting 13 million in 2009
The international trade fair in Basel, the world leader in the industry, attracts thieves. The latter kind of resounding back to 2009. A 29 year old man then attempted to grab jewels worth 13 million francs. A policeman, however, had ended its run. The thief was sentenced to 3 years in prison.
Last week, a Spanish jeweler who was going to “Baselworld” was robbed at the airport in Zurich. A stranger has pulled a cart full of gems for an estimated one million francs.
The 2011 edition of the show ends on Thursday. It brings together some 1,900 exhibitors from 45 countries. This international gathering of luxury should have attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors, according to its organizers.
