Kentwood police look for robbers of Mark Talsma Jewelry
Julie Hoogland | The Grand Rapids PressMark Talsma Jewelry KENTWOOD – Police continue to search for two men who robbed Mark Talsma Jewelry on South Division Avenue late Tuesday. The owner, Mark Talsma, had been inside the store working on customers’ jewelry. He left just before midnight when two robbers, one armed with a gun, forced him back into the store. The robbers took jewelery out of safe, along with cash and Talsma’s wallet, Kentwood Police Chief Richard Mattice said. He said that a Wyoming police dog tracked the robbers to a wooded area before losing the trail. The robbers were both wearing black, hooded sweatshirts. One was described as 5-foot-8, with a slender build and mustache. The other was heavier and taller. Mattice said it was uncertain if the robbers knew Talsma’s after-hours work schedule. The store, at 5384 S. Division Ave., had closed at 5:30 p.m. Police recovered some items of jewelry that the robbers dropped. Police would not disclose the amount lost in the holdup.
